Google has for the first time officially announced Android 2.3 Gingerbread – the next version of Android operating system for mobile phones and tablet devices and has declared the main improvements and new additions incorporated in the upcoming version of the platform.
Last version of Android 2.2 FroYo was released in May 2010 while the first smartphone which came preloaded with the FroYo was mighty Motorola Droid 2 months later in August 2010. The latest version Android 2.3 Gingerbread would be seen first on Samsung’s upcoming Nexus S smartphone.

Google-Samsung Nexus S (i9020) Smartphone Announced With Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Google has today officially introduced Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the next version of Android operating system for mobile phones and also announced on this blog entry that the latest version Android 2.3 Gingerbread would debut on Samsung’s upcoming Google’s branded Nexus S smartphone that is based on Samsung’s superstar iPhone killer Android smartphone, the Galaxy S i9000.
The Nexus S i9020 would hit Best Buy stores in US starting December 16, just in time for the holidays and will cost $529 unlocked without a service contract. In addition, with a two-year T-Mobile agreement, it would retail for $199.
The Samsung Nexus S i9020 smartphone is Quad-band GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 Tri-band HSPA: 900, 2100, 1700 HSPA type: HSDPA (7.2Mbps) HSUPA (5.76Mbps) compatible and is powered by 1 GHz Cortex A8 hummingbird chipset and features 512MB RAM along with 16GB of built-in flash memory but NO microSD card slot for additional external memory.
Nexsus S has a 4-inch 235 ppi WVGA (800 x 480) Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen like in Galaxy S and Samsung’s new Contour Display with curved glass screen and anti-fingerprint display coating.
Only 129g in weight, Nexus S also offers Wi-Fi 802.11 n/b/g Wireless LAN, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR wireless connection, Near Field Communication (NFC) (explained little below), Assisted GPS (A-GPS) and microUSB 2.0 for wired connectivity.
