Tendulkar, 37, reached the landmark 56 minutes after tea when he drove fast bowler Dale Steyn through the covers after batting for 258 minutes and facing 197 balls.
No other batsman has scored more than 39 Test centuries.
It was an almost flawless innings by the Indian batting maestro as he and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni made a valiant effort to save their team from an innings defeat.
When he reached his century he and Dhoni had put on an unbeaten 160 for the seventh wicket and were within 47 runs of making South Africa batting again.
Tendulkar, who has been playing international cricket for 21 years, has hit centuries against every other Test nation.

Conduit 2 release date set for February 15, 2011 in North America
High Voltage Software has confirmed with IGN that Conduit 2 will be released on February 15, 2011. After several estimated release months, SEGA has committed to the date. The official press release from SEGA America should be coming soon. Conduit 2 will offer much more varied environments and deeper online multiplayer combat. Seeing how the game has been presented so far, it looks like there is a big emphasis on the multiplayer. Surely more on the single-player story will be unveiled as the release date nears. Expect more of the A.S.E. (All Seeing Eye).

Google Opens Up Android App Inventor for Everyone
Since its announcement in July 2010, Google App Inventor for Android platform has been constantly receiving such positive response that the company has finally decided to open up its Android App toolkit to everyone in an effort to encouraging anyone and everyone to make their own Android app.
The Google App Inventor program for Android platform is built on the idea that you do not need to be a developer to build great mobile applications. Instead of code, Google Android App Inventor allows you to visually design applications and use blocks to specify application logic. In short all it takes to create your App is simply moving building blocks around in the browser.
Though still in Beta, the Google App Inventor for Android platform was open by invitation only but since morning today, Google is accepting every request pouring in from eager Android users at the App Inventor homepage.
“We were delighted (and honestly a bit overwhelmed!) by the interest that our announcement generated. We were even more delighted to hear the stories of what you were doing with App Inventor. All sorts of people (teachers and students, parents and kids, programming hobbyists and programming newbies) were building Android apps that perfectly,” said Google’s Karen Parker, App Inventor Program Manager.
